Interested in teaching about Climate Change?

We'd love to work with teachers (of any age group) to help develop materials and share ideas.

Portsmouth City Council has excellent exhibitions available on loan. They are about 8ft x 7 ft.  Contact Clare Wood in the Strategy Unit to arrange this and see illustrations in our resources section.

Global Dimension

If you want to find materials, a good place to start is Global Dimension because you can search for resources by topic by subject and by age group.

 

Stop Climate Chaos

Lots of organisations produce resources on global warming. You can find links to all the main ones onthe Stop Climate Chaos site.

There are somegood ideas and resources on the Government Climate Challenge site. This includes agood 2 minute video

Youth against Climate Change

You can find a list of free resources on the Youth Against Climate Change site. Suitable for: KS2/3/4 teachers & pupils.  This is an attractivelypresented site full of photographs, clear facts and ideas. There are alsolesson plans, presentations and much more.

Big Picture TV   Suitable for:KS3/4 teachers & pupils.  This is a free source of videoclips featuring experts in the field of environmental and socialsustainability.

Cape Farewell   Suitable for: KS3/4/5 teachers.  This is a charitableorganisation that brings together artists, scientists and educators to raiseawareness about climate change. The content is related to a series ofexpeditions to the Antarctic. See The Science of Climate Change for aninteresting selection of facts and the education section for details aboutresources.

Carbon Neutral  Suitable for:KS3/4/5 teachers.  This organisation leads the wayin fighting climate change by inviting individuals and business to take actionto work towards becoming carbon neutral. How to do this is explained on thewebsite. The media section includes a picture library.

Atmosphere, Climate & Environment   You can also find resources onthe Atmosphere, Climate & Environment Information Programme's website forkids.  Suitable for: KS1-5 teachers & pupils. The atmosphere, climate andenvironment section of this site has factsheets and lots of puzzles and games,aimed at KS1&2. The rest of the site is of interest to older pupils. Thesite is no longer being updated but has plenty of useful material.

US Environmental Protection Agency Suitable for:KS2/3/4 teachers & pupils.This is the climate changedivision of the American Environmental Protection Agency. The site offerscurrent information about the subject, including a special section for childrencontaining facts, games, suggestions, animations and a set of resources forteachers.

Greenhouse Gas Online Suitable for: KS2/3/4 teachers.The site contains articles andfacts gathered from the scientific press.

The Marine Conservation Society.  Suitable for: KS1/2 teachers & pupils. Pupils might find the text sizeand language used rather challenging but they will enjoy the photographs andother illustrations. There is information about many sea creatures, withdetails of their habitats and way of life, along with details of the effect ofclimate change. A travelling roadshow can be booked for school visits.

Npower Suitable for: KS1/2/3/4 teachers. The website containsinformation about renewable energy and a set of educational resources organisedby age. These include posters, activity ideas, presentations, worksheets andbooklets.

The National Grid for Learning - Wales. Suitable for:KS2-5 teachers & pupils.Containing a wealth ofinteresting resources about climate change in Wales, this site is full ofphotographs, activity ideas, animations, case studies and more.

Friends of the Earth  Resources include Mad about climate change – poster for 5 – 10 year olds and Shout about climate change – activity pack for 11- 13 yearolds. Both free to download.
