An Observer article by John Vidal has shown how rich countries faced by a global food shortage now farm an area double the size of the UK to guarantee supplies for their citizens. Farmers in many parts of Africa have no titles to the land they have farmed for generations and these are being sold off to hte highest bidders, including UK companies.
